Éric Robitaille

Eric Robitaille is a self-taught artist from Montreal, born in Terrebonne in 1981. For the creation of his paintings, he has been developing for several years a unique style of figuration that tends towards abstraction. Animal and plant life play a large role in his recent series, primarily to symbolize human behaviour and life mechanics. With a mixture of techniques, he begins with a spontaneous and intuitive creative process, and then comes back in a very meticulous way to create a balance.

His training in computer graphics allows him to integrate custom-made stencils into his works to obtain certain geometric patterns and perfect lines that would be impossible for him to reproduce by freehand. In addition to stencils, brushes and spatula, the camera and computer are for him essential tools to obtain the desired result. Multi-layering and scraping are his two main techniques used.

His main objective is the integration of various elements, colors and layers so that the canvas is inviting to the eye, but above all communicates to perfection the story and significance of each piece.
