Carole Malcolm

Born and raised in Dieppe, New Brunswick, Carole Malcolm has been drawing and painting ever since she can remember. Her family spent weekends and vacations camping along the beaches and rivers throughout the Atlantic Provinces, Quebec, and Ontario. Her father, an avid fly fisherman, and her mother, who was born and raised on a farm in Quebec, would lead the family on walks along beaches, rivers, or through forests, picking berries, fishing, digging clams, and camping. This way of life was simply part of their routine and provided plenty of inspiration for  Carole Malcolm’s paintings, deeply intertwined with cherished family moments.

While continuing to paint, Carole joined the Canadian Armed Forces, learning from remarkable people and forming lifelong friendships across Canada, the USA, and Europe. Growing up in the Maritimes, she once thought the pace of life was too slow, the towns too small, and that better opportunities existed elsewhere. However, after exploring other parts of the world and gaining a greater appreciation for her good fortune, those very qualities she once took for granted are now the ones she treasures most. These memories continue to shape her artwork, alongside the process of gathering reference material, painting on location, and completing her pieces in the studio.

Carole Malcolm’s work has evolved from an aspiration for realism to a focus on a more romantic construction of simple elements. She enjoys working in a way where not every step is planned and controlled, exploring the impression of a landscape while inviting the viewer to share a moment of pause. Through her art, she hopes to evoke memories and emotions in others, connecting them with the everyday beauty that surrounds us.
