” Stories are important to me and I’m especially interested in the ones that stem from the sum of our layers. My work considers the ongoing tension between what we know in our cells and what we wear on our skin.

I describe my work as narrative, although I seldom know exactly what the story is. I have developed a process of layering paper, charcoal, paint, collage and metal leaf and have learned to trust that what comes along with each of these applications is a kind of discovery of characters. Whether I am painting human or animal forms, they seem to come with their own agenda. I like to think that my painting subjects find me, and then it is up to me to allow them their say. ”
